New Protest in Sanaa

September 04, 2007

The U.S. Embassy has reports that there the demonstration in Tahrir Square in support of the new weapons law in Sanaa has ended without incident. However, a new demonstration by local teachers has now moved into Tahrir Square. Although this demonstration is also expected to be peaceful, the surrounding streets may be locked down and heavy traffic congestion is expected. U.S. Embassy personnel have been instructed to avoid the area. We wish to remind American citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence. American citizens are therefore urged to avoid the areas of demonstrations if possible, and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of any demonstrations.

The U.S. Embassy is located at Dhahr Himyar Zone, Sheraton Hotel District, P.O. Box 22347. The telephone number of the Consular Section is (967)(1) 755-2000, extension 2153 or 2266.
