The U.S. Embassy has reports that there will be a large gathering in Tahrir Square in Sanaa today (August 28) starting at around 9:30 AM organized by opposition political parties to protest government price hikes. Although the demonstration is expected to be peaceful, the surrounding streets will be locked down and heavy traffic congestion is expected. U.S. Embassy personnel have been instructed to avoid the area. We wish to remind American citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence. American citizens are therefore urged to avoid the areas of demonstrations if possible, and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of any demonstrations.
