Commercial Officer Ms. S. Plott of the U.S. Embassy Discusses Careers in the Military for Women with Yemen America Language Institute (YALI) Students

Recently U.S. Embassy commercial attaché Ms. Susan Plott spoke with 50 members of the YALI staff and students and answered their questions about the role of women in the U.S. military. Ms. Plott, who is also a lawyer, was enlisted in the U.S. Army for several years before joining the diplomatic corps. Ms. Plott fielded a wide range of questions about women’s roles and mission in a modern army. Discussions centered on whether women should engage in combat, whether men tend to be more protective of women soldiers, and the difficult question of who is left to tend the children if women are called into action and must leave their home bases.
