U.S. Embassy Statement Observing Patriot Day

September 11, 2001, was a defining moment in American history. On that terrible day, the United States fell victim to the evils of global terrorism as 19 men attacked our country and murdered over 3,000 people of many races, nationalities, and creeds. By a joint resolution approved, the Congress of the United States September 11th will be commemorated each year as "Patriot Day." On Patriot Day, we remember the innocent victims, and we pay tribute to the valiant firefighters, police officers, emergency personnel, and ordinary citizens who risked their lives so others might live. After the attacks on 9/11, America resolved that we would go on the offense against our enemies, and we would not distinguish between the terrorists and those who harbor and support them. All Americans honor the selfless men and women of our Armed Forces, the dedicated members of our public safety, law enforcement, and intelligence communities, and the thousands of others who work hard each day to protect our country, secure our liberty, and prevent future attacks.

The spirit of our people is the source of America's strength, and six years ago, Americans came to the aid of neighbors in need. On Patriot Day, we pray for those who died and for their families. We volunteer to help others and demonstrate the continuing compassion of our citizens. On this solemn occasion, we rededicate ourselves to laying the foundation of peace with confidence in our mission and our free way of life.

The attacks of September 11, 2001 reminded the world that terrorism does not discriminate among race, religion, or national origin. America was the target of the terrorists but Americans weren’t the only victims. On September 11, citizens of more than 115 countries lost their lives, leaving behind devastated families and friends, colleagues and communities.

The U.S. Embassy in Yemen is deeply committed to doing everything possible to see an end—in Yemen, in the United States and throughout the world—to the senseless acts of violence to promote political ends. Our hope is that Americans and Yemenis can work together to eliminate conflict and hate, poverty and despair and instead, build bridges between peoples, forging relationships built on tolerance, mutual respect and understanding.

تصريح سفارة الولايات المتحدة بمناسبة إحياء يوم حب الوطن

لقد مثل الحادي عشر من سبتمبر 2001م لحظةً حاسمةً في تاريخ الولايات المتحدة. ففي ذلك اليوم العصيب وقعت الولايات المتحدة ضحيةَ لشرور الإرهاب العالمي حيث هاجم تسعة عشر شخصاَ بلدنا وقتلوا ما يربو على ثلاثة آلاف شخص من مختلف الأجناس والأعراق والديانات. ووفقاً لقرار مشترك تم اقراره سيحيي كونجرس الولايات المتحدة الحادي عشر من سبتمبر "يوم حب الوطن" كل عام.

وفي هذا اليوم نتذكرالضحايا الأبرياء ونحييّ أولئك الشجعان من عمال الإطفاء وضباط الشرطة وعمال الطوارىء والمواطنين الذين جازفوا بحياتهم ليحيا الآخرون. فبعد أحداث الحادي عشر من سبتمبر قررت أميركا أن نمضي قدماً في محاربة أعدائنا وأن لا نفرق بين الإرهابيين وبين أولئك الذين يئونهم و يدعمونهم. إن كل الأمريكيين يحيّون كل الرجال والنساء من أفراد القوات المسلحة والسلامة العامة و تطبيق القانون والوكالات الإستخباراتية والآلآف من أولئك الذين لا يألون جهداً في العمل بجد في كل يوم لحماية بلدنا وتأمين حريتنا ومنع أي هجمات مستقبلية.

إن الروح المعنوية لشعبنا هي مصدر قوة أميركا فقبل ست أعوام أتى الأمريكيون لمساعدة إخوانهم ذوي الحاجة. ونتضرع بالدعاء في يوم حب الوطن لأولئك الذين ماتوا ولأسرهم. كما أننا نتطوع لمساعدة الآخرين ونظهر التعاطف والحب المستمر لمواطنينا. ففي هذه المناسبة الحزينة نعيد تكريس أنفسنا لوضع أساسٍ للسلام، واثقين بذلك في مهمتنا ودربنا الحر في الحياة.

إن هجمات الحادي عشر من سبتمر 2001م ذكًرت العالم بأن الارهاب لا يميز بين العرق أو الدين أو الأصل القومي. أميركا كانت هدفا للإرهابيين ولكن الأميركيون لم يكونوا الضحايا وحدهم، وراح ضحية هجمات يوم الحادي عشر من سبتمر مواطنون ينتمون إلى أكثر من 115 بلداً مخلفين وراءهم عائلات وأصدقاء وكذا زملاء ومجتمعات.

إن السفارة الأميركية في اليمن ملتزمة تماماً لعمل كل شيىء ممكن لترى نهايةً لأعمال العنف عديمة الفائدة – سوءاً كان ذلك في اليمن وفي الولايات المتحدة أو في جميع أنحاء العالم- وذلك لتعزيز أهداف سياسية. أملنا هو أن يتمكن الأميركيون واليمنيون من العمل سوياً للقضاء على الصراعات والكراهية والفقر واليأس وأن يعملوا على بناء الجسور بين الشعوب وإقامة علاقات مبنية على التسامح والتفاهم والاحترام المتبادل.
