August 26, 2007: The United States Government (USG) provided 20 portable power generating units, 20 tents, and 66 first aid kits to the Desert Locust Management and Control Center (DLMCC) in response to a request from Yemen’s Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation. The total cost of the assistance package was $32,000. Angie Bryan, the U.S. Embassy's Deputy Chief of Mission, presented the equipment to Abdulmalik Al-Arashi, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, in a ceremony at the DLMCC.

Deputy Minister Al-Arashi thanked the USG for its support and assistance. “We are grateful to the U.S. Government for the assistance it provides to the Yemeni government and to the agriculture sector. The 20 diesel generators and the 20 tents provided by the U.S. mean 20 mobile teams will be able to eradicate locusts,” he added.

The power generating units and tents were provided by the U.S.' Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa; the first aid kits were provided by the U.S. Agency for International Development. The equipment will be used by locust control teams operating mainly in the interior of the country.
