Cultural Evening at U.S. Embassy

September 17

Yemenis and Americans joined together on September 17 at the Embassy courtyard to enjoy an evening of fellowship and culture. Accomplished violinist Jessica Andrade opened the event by playing Bach’s “Courante” followed by a lively rendition of a “Celtic Air” and finally a traditional American ‘fiddle’ folk tune. Next oud player Ibrahim Al Taifi and tambour player Mohamed Al Zabidi played ‘takaseem’ (traditional Islamic oud pieces) and several traditional Yemeni pieces. All were grateful to relax with friends and converse about candidates and the hotly contested presidential campaign just days before the Yemen’s historic election day.
