Governor of Amran opens USAID workshop to form Supreme Council for Girls’ Education

A two-day workshop to form a Supreme Council (majlis) for Girls’ Education under the patronage of Mr. Noman Saleh Duwaid, Governor of Amran, and supported by the United States Agency for International Development was held July 29-30. Fifty-six individuals took part in the workshop, including the Directors General of all of the governorate’s sectoral ministries (including Education, Health, Water, Agriculture, and Economic Development) as well as the executives of the Local Governing Council and a wide range of civil society organizations.
The workshop participants emphasized the problem of low school enrollment rates among girls not just in Amran, but in all of Yemen. "Girls' education is one of the major problems faced in Yemen, one which requires serious attention. Forming a Supreme Council for girls' education is a stepping stone towards solving this problem," said Ahmad Al-Subari, Director General of Education in Amran. Participants strongly encouraged all stakeholders (governmental and non-governmental entities) to take an active role in encouraging more parents to send their daughters to school and to keep them actively enrolled, noting that the girls themselves, their families, and the communities will all benefit.

محافظ عمران يفتتح ورشة عمل تنظمها الوكالة الأمريكية للتنمية الدولية لتشكيل مجلس أعلى لتعليم الفتاة
تحت رعاية محافظ محافظة عمران نعمان أحمد صالح دويد وبدعم من الوكالة الأمريكية للتنمية الدولية تم عقد ورشة عمل وذلك خلال الفترة من 29 يوليو2007م حتى 30 يوليو 2007م.
شارك في الورشة 56 مشاركاً منهم مدراء عموم مكاتب الوزارات منهم مدراء عموم مكاتب التربية والتعليم والصحة والمياه والزراعة والتنمية الإقتصادية) وكذا الأجهزة التنفيذية للمجالس المحلية ومنظمات المجتمع المدني.
وفي الورشة شدد المشاركون على مشكلة إنخفاض معدلات تسجيل الفتيات في المدارس ليس فقط في محافظة عمران بل في اليمن أيضاً. "تعليم الفتاة هو إحدى أكبرالمشكلات التي تواجه اليمن والتي تتطلب مزيداً من الإهتمام كما أن تشكيل مجلس أعلى لتعليم الفتاة يعد حجر البداية نحو حل هذه المشكلة،" صرح بهذا أحمد الصباري مدير عام مكتب التربية والتعليم في محافظة عمران.
وشجع المشراكون وبشدة كل الجهات المعنية من المؤسسات الحكومية والغيرحكومية لتبني دور فعال لتشجيع المزيد من أولياء الأمور لإرسال وتسجيل بناتهم في المدارس منوهين إلى أن أن الفتيات أنفسهن وأسرهن ومجتمعاتهن سيستفيدون من ذلك.
