Over 200 Access Students Receive Certificates after Year-long English Course

Ambassador Krajeski addresses ACCESS youth from Sana'a

Ambassador Thomas Krajeski congratulated the 214 students who studied English language for one year under a grant from the U.S. Department of State to participate in the “Access” program for youth aged 14-18. Ambassador Krajeski said: “I congratulate you all on your graduation and also encourage you to learn English more and more as the English language has become the language of science, technology, economy and research.” Student Ayoub Wael thanked the United States and said: “Before November 2005, my family numbered 20, but today…my family members total over 270. This is because I consider all Access students as my brothers and sisters. I am really glad to have studied with the most intelligent students in Yemen, who are going to be the future pilots, engineers, doctors, ministers, businessmen, businesswomen and journalists of Yemen.”

On September 13, Public Affairs Officer Ann Roubachewsky distributed 200 certificates to Access youth in Aden and praised them for taking on the difficult task of learning English and learning more about U.S. culture saying their efforts would also help them know more about themselves and their own culture.

The Access program will continue and include 300 Yemeni youth during the coming year. Interviews are conducted in the Fall for inclusion in this program designed to encourage mutual understanding and help prepare students to become more competitive for study opportunities in the United States.
