Special Consular Services
Notarial Service
A consular officer performs notarial services customarily provided by a Notary Public in the U.S. and certifies true copies. Please note that the consular officer who notarizes a will cannot witness the same document. A person requiring notary services must satisfy the consular officer of his or her US identity, the person is voluntarily requesting the service, and the person understands the purpose of the document(s).
Note also that a consular officer cannot certify that documents are valid or the statements made are true. He or she can attest only to the oath taken by the person making the statements or presenting the documents. A consular officer has the right to refuse to perform a notarial service when he or she has reason to believe that the document(s) will be used for a purpose patently unlawful or not in the interests of the U.S. government.
Documents can be dropped off for notarization at the Consular Section of the Embassy at 7:30am every Saturday and Monday.
