U.S. Embassy helps build capacity of civil society organizations in Shabwa, Marib, Sa’ada

October 06, 2009

The U.S. Embassy is sponsoring a six-month project implemented by the National Organization for Developing Society (NODS) to build the capacity of civil society organizations in Shabwa, Sa’ada and Marib. As part of this project, on October 4 NODS launched a capacity-building workshop in Sana’a for civil society leaders from the targeted governorates.

Member of Parliament and NODS Chairman Shawqi al-Qadhi facilitated the workshop, which will help the participating organizations play a more active role in resolving conflicts and overcoming acute socioeconomic challenges in their communities.  The launch of the workshop was attended by Minister for Social Affairs and Labor Dr. Amat al-Razaq Humad, who highlighted the critical role of civil society organizations in the development process, and U.S. Embassy Cultural Affairs Officer Walker Murray, who reiterated the commitment of the U.S. Embassy to supporting civil society development in Yemen.
