In support of some of Yemen's most needy young students, the United States Embassy dedicated nearly $1,000,000 in school renovations at a ceremony held at the Movenpick Hotel, December 29, 2007. Over the past few months, the Civil Affairs Team of the Embassy worked with three different communities in Ma'rib and Al-Jawf to renovate three schools. The project was designed and implemented by US Government's Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa based in Djibouti.
In Ma'rib, the Civil Affairs team helped two schools. At the Al-Ayman school the team built a new school building with eight classrooms as well as three-room medical clinic. Also in Ma'rib, the Embassy funded the construction of a new building with 10 new classrooms at the Mohamed Hail Girls School. In Al-Jawf, the Al-Wahda school had been closed for the past four years due to damage from floods. While it was closed, the school was looted and used as a temporary homeless shelter. The Civil Affairs team completely refurbished the existing buildings and all 12 classrooms, replacing all the plumbing and electrical systems and constructed a security wall.
Speaking at the ceremony, US Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Angie Bryan said that "The Embassy and the American people believe that the investment in the education of Yemen's young people is an investment in the future of Yemen. I am proud that we are a part of improving the educational opportunities for the children of Ma’rib and Al-Jawf. It is my hope that all the people of Yemen continue to feel the benefits from the strong and growing U.S –Yemeni friendship."
حكومة الولايات المتحدة تستثمر في مستقبل اليمن بترميم ثلاث مدارس في محافظتي الجوف ومأرب بتكلفة مليون دولار
أقامت سفارة الولايات المتحدة بصنعاء حفلاً في فندق موفنبيك يوم السبت الموافق 29 ديسمبر 2007 لتدشين ترميم عدد من المدارس بتكلفة مليون دولار وذلك لدعم بعض طلاب اليمن الأكثر إحتياجاً. عمل فريق الشؤون المدنية التابع للسفارة وعلى مدى الأشهرالقليلة الماضية مع مختلف شرائح المجتمع في محافظتي مأرب والجوف لترميم ثلاث مدارس. قامت القوات الأمريكية المشتركة في القرن الأفريقي ومقرها في جيبوتي بتصميم وتنفيذ هذا المشروع.
وقام فريق الشؤون المدنية بترميم مدرستين في محافظة مأرب. حيث قام الفريق ببناء مبنى جديد لمدرسة الأيمن مكونة من ثمانية فصول دراسية وعيادة طبية مكونة من ثلاث غرف. كما قامت السفارة بتمويل بناء مبنى جديد مكون من عشرة فصول دراسية في محافظة مأرب تابع لمدرسة الشهيد محمد هايل للبنات. في محافظة الجوف ظلت مدرسة الوحدة مغلقة طيلة الأربع سنوات الماضية بسبب الأضرار الناجمة عن الفيضانات. وخلال فترة إغلاقها تعرضت المدرسة للنهب وتم إستخدامها كمأوى مؤقت للمتشردين. وقام فريق الشؤون المدنية بتجديد المباني القائمة وجميع الإثني عشر فصلاً دراسياً وكذا إستبدال كل أنظمة المياة والأنظمة الكهربائية وكذا بناء جدار أمني.
وتحدثت نائبة سفير الولايات المتحدة "آنجي براين" في حفل الإفتتاح قائلةً " إن السفارة والشعب الأمريكي يؤمنان بأن الإستثمار في مستقبل شباب اليمن هو إستثمار في مستقبل اليمن". وأضافت " أنا فخورة بأن نكون جزءً من تحسين الفرص التعليمية المقدمة لأطفال الجوف ومأرب" وأختتمت قائلةً " أتمنى أن يستمر كل أفراد الشعب اليمني بشعورهم بالمنافع الناجمة عن الصداقة اليمنية الأمريكية القوية والمتنامية
