U.S. Embassy congratulates Yemen on successful counter-terrorism operation in Tarim
August 24, 2008
The U.S. embassy in Sana’a congratulated the Yemeni government on the successful counter-terrorism operation in Hadramout on August 11, and arrests made subsequent to that operation. “This is an important victory in the ongoing battle against terrorism in Yemen and in the region,” a source in the U.S. embassy said.
“The “success” of this operation sends a very clear message that Yemen stands squarely with the international community in its determination to deny safe haven to terrorists and extremists who would use violence to achieve their goals. As Yemen proceeds in this determined manner, it can count on the support of the United States of America” the U.S. source added.
“We all mourn the death of the brave officers who lost their lives while attempting to arrest dangerous al-Qaeda operatives in the town of Tarim. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of these brave officers, and wish a speedy recovery to those officers wounded during the operation,” the source concluded.
