Demonstrations in Sanaa Today, January 23

The U.S. Embassy has information that there is currently a gathering on 70 Meter Road in Sanaa of more than 25,000 people. Many of the participants are burning the Israeli flag. Other demonstrations are possible throughout Sanaa. Embassy personnel have been instructed to avoid the area of any demonstration until the crowds have dispersed. The Embassy reminds American citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence. American citizens are therefore urged to avoid the areas of demonstrations if possible, and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of any demonstrations.
