January 22, 2008
The U.S. Embassy has information that there is a protest and march planned today in support of the Palestinian cause and against Israel. It will start at 9:00 AM on the Ring Road near the old university and will proceed to the UNDP office on 60 Meter Road. Additionally, the Embassy has preliminary reports of separate gatherings near the reviewing stands on 70 Meter Road and in Hadda near the post office. Other demonstrations are possible throughout Sanaa. Embassy personnel have been instructed to avoid these areas until the crowds have dispersed. The Embassy reminds American citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence. American citizens are therefore urged to avoid the areas of demonstrations if possible, and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of any demonstrations.
