On April 16, the Public Affairs Office in cooperation with the Diplomatic Institute, has jointly opened an information center at the institute’s library at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The information center is part of a wider initiative known as the American Spaces  (AS) program that is built around the concepts of partnership, public access, and programming. It is a collaborative effort to foster goodwill and mutual understanding between the peoples of the United States of America and the Republic of Yemen. The American Spaces are furnished with PCs equipped with high-speed Internet connections in addition to resources that incorporate books on a variety of subjects ranging from information technology, English language teaching, cultural and historical books on the U.S., and encyclopedias.

Public Affairs Officer Mario Crifo in his opening remarks said, "I recognize the vital role technology plays today, and I am delighted that we offer so many resources that help connect Yemenis and Americans.  It is a collaborative effort to foster goodwill and mutual understanding between the peoples of the United States of America and the Republic of Yemen." The opening was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, his Excellency Dr. AbuBakr AlQirbi, UK Ambassador Nicholas Hopton, Dean of the Diplomatic Institute Ambassador Hameed AlAwadi, and members of the Yemeni foreign service.
