U.S. welcomes investigation of civilian deaths in Amran, urges Eid cease fire

The United States Embassy in Sana’a welcomes the decision by the Government of Yemen to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding an air attack on a location in Amran governorate where civilian refugees were seeking shelter from the fighting in Sa’ada, and which resulted in a substantial loss of life, including women and children.
The incident points to the increasingly severe humanitarian costs of the sixth round of fighting between Houthi rebels and the Yemeni government, and the need for immediate steps to address the pressing needs of the affected civilian population.
A 72-hour cease fire adhered to by both parties over the upcoming Eid holiday would provide international relief agencies an opportunity to provide emergency food and medical supplies to the tens of thousands of Yemeni citizens driven from their homes by the conflict.
The United States of America urges each party to publicly announce its intention to halt hostilities during this period, in recognition of their responsibilities under international law.
الولايات المتحدة ترحب بقرار التحقيق في حادثة مقتل مدنيين في عمران وتدعو لوقف إطلاق النار خلال أيام العيد
ترحب سفارة الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية بصنعاء بقرار الحكومة اليمنية بإجراء تحقيقٍ كامل حول الملابسات المحيطة بحدوث هجوم جوي على إحدى المناطق في محافظة عمران، حيث كان اللاجئون المدنيون يبحثون عن ملاذٍ من القتال الدائر في محافظة صعدة، والذي أسفر عن خسائر كبيرة في الأرواح، بما في ذلك أرواح النساء والأطفال.
وتشير الحادثة إلى تزايد الخسائر البشرية الكبيرة جراء الجولة السادسة من القتال بين المتمردين الحوثيين والحكومة اليمنية، وكذا الحاجة إلى اتخاذ إجراءات عاجلة لمعالجة الاحتياجات الملحة للسكان المدنيين المتضررين.
إن التزام الطرفين بوقفٍ لإطلاق النار مدته 72 ساعة خلال إجازة عيد الفطر كفيل بأن يمنح وكالات الإغاثة الدولية فرصةً لتقديم الإمدادات الغذائية والطبية الطارئة لعشرات الآلاف من المواطنين اليمنيين الذين أُخرجوا من ديارهم بسبب النزاع الدائر.
وعليه تحث الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية كلا الطرفين التصريح علناً عن عزمهما على إيقاف الأعمال العدائية خلال هذه الفترة، وذلك إقراراُ بمسؤولياتهما بموجب القانون الدولي.
