Ambassador Stephen A. Seche's Biography
Ambassador Seche arrived in Sana’a on August 24, 2007. He presented his credentials to President Ali Abdullah Saleh on September 5, 2007.
The Ambassador is a career foreign-service officer who has spent most of his nearly 30 years with the Department of State engaged in the practice of public diplomacy. During the 2006-07 academic year, Mr. Seche was a Visiting Fellow at the University of Southern California, where he taught in the recently established master’s degree program in public diplomacy.
From February 2005 - August 2006, Mr. Seche served as Charge d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Damascus, Syria, following the departure of the Ambassador in the wake of the murder of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri; he was Deputy of Chief of Mission for the six months prior. This was Mr. Seche’s second tour in Damascus: from 1999-2002, he was Counselor for Public Affairs and Director of the American Cultural Center. He spent the two years between his Damascus assignments as Director of the Office for Egypt and Levant Affairs at the Department of State in Washington, DC.
Mr. Seche entered the Foreign Service in 1978 and spent the first seven years of his career in public-diplomacy positions in Guatemala, Peru and Bolivia. Other overseas assignments have included four years (1989-1993) as Information Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa, Canada, and four years (1993-1997) as Press Attache at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, India. Following his service in India, he returned to Washington for the first of two years of Arabic language training, completing the program at the Foreign Service Institute’s Field School in Tunis.
Mr. Seche received his B.A. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and spent four years as a journalist before entering the Foreign Service. He is married to Susan Canning; they have three daughters.

وصل السفير ستيفن سشِ إلى صنعاء في الرابع والعشرين من أغسطس 2007م وقدم أوراق إعتماده إلى فخامة رئيس الجمهورية في الخامس من سبتمبر 2007م.
عمل السفير سشِ كمسئول في السلك الدبلوماسي والذي قضى معظم سنواته الثلاثين تقريبا مع وزارة الخارجية في مجال الدبلوماسية العامة والممارسات المتعلقة بها. خلال العام 2006/2007 عمل السفير سش كأستاذ زائر في جامعة كاليفورنيا الجنوبية حيث دَرّس الدبلوماسية العامة لبرنامج درجة الماجستير الذي تم إنشاؤه مؤخرا.
خدم السفير سشِ خلال الفترة من فبراير 2005 وحتى أغسطس 2006م كقائم بالأعمال في سفارة الولايات المتحدة في دمشق، سوريا بعد مغادرة السفير عقب حادثة إغتيال رئيس الوزراء السابق رفيق الحريري، وخدم لمدة ستة أشهر كنائب للسفير قبل ذلك. كانت تلك الرحلة الثانية للسفير سش في دمشق حيث عمل خلال الفترة من 1999/2002م كمستشار للشئون العامة ومديرا للمركز الثقافي الأمريكي. خلال السنتين بين المنصبين الذين تولاهما في دمشق عَمِلَ كمدير مكتب شئون مصر و دول شرق البحر المتوسط بوزارة الخارجية في واشنطن.
التحق السفير سشِ بوزارة الخارجية في عام 1978م وقضى السبع سنوات الأولى من عمله في مناصب ذات علاقة بالدبلوماسية العامة في كل من جواتيمالا، البيرو و بوليفيا. ومن ضمن المهام الخارجية، عمل خلال الفترة (1989-1993) كمسئول إعلامي في السفارة الأمريكية في أتاوا، كندا ولمدة أربع سنوات (1993-1997) كمسئول صحفي في نيودلهي، الهند. وعقب إنتهاء مهمته في نيودلهي، عاد إلى واشنطن للإلتحاق بالسنة الأولى من برنامج تعلّم اللغة العربية لمدة سنتين حيث أنهى البرنامج في مدرسة ميدانية تابعة لمعهد وزارة الخارجية في تونس.
حصل السفير سش على درجة البكالوريوس من جامعة ماساشوستس في مدينة أمهرست وعمل لمدة أربع سنوات كصحفي قبل التحاقه بوزارة الخارجية. متزوج من السيده سوزان كانينج ولديهم ثلاث بنات.
